One step at a time! We are now building communities in East Africa

How to become caregivers to our elderly and sick family members is a skill that each one of us should have.

As a trained caregiver myself, I had to constantly remind myself that in serving others I’m serving Allah.

In our African communities, the responsibility of taking care of our elderly parents is solely ours, we have embraced the challenge, but many people lack the knowledge of how to go about it to give quality care to their loved ones.

From my love of working with the community, I got approached by women who are caregivers at home and many of them complained of emotional and physical tiredness associated with this noble services.

I decided to team up with fellow caregivers and through Markaz Misbahul Huda and partnered with Lantern of Light which is now a UK Registered charity to start basic caregivers training in different communities to empower them with knowledge to be able to care for their family members in need.

Why did I choose to do this you might ask?

I feel that we are all caregivers by default, we will at one time in our lives be forced to be there for people who cannot help themselves either because they are sick, disabled, or old.

Having such skills empowers families, empowers communities because it gives them a sense of comfort knowing that they can embrace this service with ease.

Getting an outsider or a professional to do home based care is also very expensive thus we had to find a more affordable way that marginalised communities can use when the need arises.

My hope and prayers is to be able to empower more communities with this knowledge, strengthen inter religious relationships by working with people from all faiths and most importantly, serve my religion by acts of service.

I draw my strength from Sayyida Fatimah (as) and Sayyida Zaynab (as). They are my role models as caregivers.

Lady Fatimah (as) was a nurse/caregiver to her father the holy Prophet (saww) whenever he got injured by people fighting him while he propagated Islam. She also offered first aid services to the Muslim soldiers during battles.

Lady Zaynab (as) was the queen of all caregivers in Karbala, she was left to care for the sick, the children, the elderly and bury the dead after the tragedy of Ashura.

These two beautiful souls performed this service with bravery and God consciousness as their reward is only with Allah (swt).

I have looked within me for my God given talent, strength and passion and I have found it in service to humanity.

May Allah accept from us as we make this dream a reality! Hope you are feeling inspired to team up with us and create positive ripples across the globe.

Please do not forget to donate towards all the amazing initiatives that Lantern of Light is carrying out and breaking all the barriers.

Together will be able to save our beautiful humanity.

Lots of peace coming your way and duas
