Today, we commemorate the birth anniversary of Imam Ali Raza (a), the 6th Imam in the lineage of Rasool Allah (s). He was born on the 11th of Zil-Qa’dah in 148 AH in Madina, shortly after the tragic murder of his grandfather, Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (a), at the hands of the merciless and deceitful Abbasi emperor Mansour Dawaniqi. This act was driven by the emperor’s fear of Imam al-Sadiq’s (s) popularity among scientists.

Imam Ali Raza (a)’s Imamat and the Golden Period of Islam

Imam Ali Raza (a)’s Imamat coincided with the golden era of Islam. Baghdad became the capital, fostering scientific advancements, while the Abbassids created the first world map. The establishment of public libraries, observatories, and institutes further contributed to this flourishing era.

Scientific Contributions

Mamun organized scientific debates, challenging the knowledge of Imam Ali Raza (a) by inviting scholars from various backgrounds, including Zoroastrians, Jews, and Christians. However, not only did Imam Raza (a)’s superior knowledge surpass every scholar, but his exceptional morals, deep worship, and unparalleled ethics also captivated people.

One of Imam Ali Raza (a)’s notable contributions in the field of medicine is the book “Risalat al-Dhahabiyya,” also known as the golden treatise. Mamun ordered it to be transcribed in gold and kept in the Dar-al Hikma, the treasure house. This remarkable work laid the foundation for preventive medicine.

Humanitarian Contributions

In an era marred by division and discrimination, where self-proclaimed tyrants ruled over the Muslim empire, Imam Raza (a) stood as a true leader promoting equality. He freed 1000 slaves, disregarding objections and asking, “What is the difference between them and me?” He distributed his wealth among the needy, upholding their rights. His house became a warm sanctuary for guests, offering solace to the heartbroken. In his presence, everyone felt safe, and this sentiment endures among people like us.

Environmental Contribution

Following the noble tradition of his pious ancestors, Imam Ali Raza (a) planted trees, dug wells, and cleaned streams with his blessed hands. On his way to the city of Marv, he planted hundreds of almond trees, leaving an environmental legacy.

Congratulations on the birth anniversary of Imam Ali Raza (a)!
